This pano is taken near the Basilique
Saint Just, just 1 km away from the village of Saint Bertrand
de Comminges. This Romanesque church from the 12th century
is considered one of the nicest churches of the Pyrenees.
It is also possible to see far-off Sainte Marie cathedral,
in the center of the village and built in a hill. This cathedral
is a Romanesque-gothic style building from 12th-15th century.
This rainy day only allowed us to do a short walk from the
beautiful and isolated church of Saint Just to the not less
isolated and quiet village of Saint Bertrand de Comminges.
It was Monday at the begining of December, and the little
village seemed abandoned. This village (the ancient Lugdunum)
is a perfect balcony over the mountains that announce the
Pyrenees: it is located in 'Piémont' region, that means
'food of the mountain'. |
